A Simple Stress Relief Exercise

Ok, so you're feeling stressed out.
Is there anything that you can do about it? There sure is.
Here is a very simple stress relief exercise taught to me by my supervisor when I was an intern. I know that there is an official name for it, but I'm sorry I don't have the reference. I will try to find it.

Here goes:

Sit in a comfortable chair.
Get in a relaxed position. Sitting up with your feet on the floor. Legs uncrossed.
Close your eyes (after you finish reading this of course :) )
Put your head down. Relax your neck.
Inhale through your nose. Deeply. Take air into your chest and let your stomach be pushed out by the inhalation.
Slowly let the air out through your mouth.
Take about 3 breaths and allow yourself to feel your body relaxing.
After the 3 deep breaths and exhalations.
Take one more breath, on the exhalation smile and say something soothing to yourself like "everything is all right" or "I'm feeling fine" find a phrase that works for you. It's important with relaxation exercises to personalize them. You need a phrase that makes you feel good, not someone else's phrase.

Here's the key. Do this exercise several times a day. Whether you are stressed out or not. Practice in this way. when the time comes that you are totally stressed you will have this in your repertoire and be able t use it without having to really think about it.

Let me know how you like it and how it works.
